Dear Angel,
I hope these words find you well. And if they don’t, I hope you find yourself well in the near future.
I’m Edeli Tureygua, a Dominican Miami-native and queer, autistic, [urban] ecologist, creative, and Spiritualist. In the summer of 2023, I left a PhD program at an “elite” institution after a series of traumatic and discriminatory events to begin developing Angelic Musings y Virtudes – a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and improving the Spiritual, psychological, and physical well-being of traditionally marginalized communities by implementing a holistic healing approach that promotes restorative self-improvement, resilient community building, and socio-ecological regeneration.
The organization will be based out of Puerto Rico – a colonized island where ~39% of the population is currently living in poverty, ~62% of households earn less than $35,000, and ~85% of individuals identify as a race other than white (i.e. BIPOC: Black, Indigenous, or other Person of Color) (American Community Survey, 2023). This data suggests that neither the Puerto Rican government nor the U.S. government have been able (or willing) to help the island and its people elevate out of their dire socio-economic conditions. It seems that as long as the process of wealth extraction is able to continue and the island can be used to further U.S. interests, improving living conditions for the people of Puerto Rico will not be a priority to those in power. This is precisely why Angelic Musings y Virtudes aims to help fill the gaps left by inefficient or uncaring governments. But doing so requires resources and a support-base that we do not currently have – which is why I’m writing to you today in the hopes of forming a new, life-changing connection that can help us obtain the broad reach needed to make this goal a reality.
We project our operating expenses for the first year to be about $5,460,668, plus an additional $2,309,332 that would be needed for one-time start-up costs. However, with just $6,650 in donations we would be able to officially incorporate as a nonprofit in Puerto Rico and apply for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, which would allow us to obtain funds through formal grant applications as well. And if we raise at least $23,293, we would be able to commence part of our revenue-generating service offerings with a potential to earn an annual income between about $9,715,105 up to over $126 million.
As a socially-challenged autie, I’ll admit that my limited network has not been sufficient enough to raise even the $6,650 needed to officially incorporate. But if Floridians are willing to gamble an average of $25,753,425 a day (OPPAGA Report, 2025) in the Lottery with the hope of winning an easier life – however unlikely their chances – I’m hopeful that with the publicity-elevating help from the right angel, we would be able to attract enough attention and support nationwide to officially launch Angelic Musings y Virtudes and improve the lives of Puerto Rican residents and ALL others who chose to partake of our [virtual] service and product offerings.
